HOW DID YOU MEET YOUR PARTNER?
I met him on Tinder when I was on holiday in Melbourne. I was living in Berlin at the time and just looking for a fun date. We met on a Friday, 2 days before I flew back. We met up again Saturday morning, spent the whole day together and didn’t leave each other's side until he dropped me off at the airport on Sunday. After that we just never stopped talking.
HOW DID THE PROPOSAL GO DOWN?
We were on holiday in New York and he had booked a picnic in Central Park. He does sweet things like this all the time so I didn’t think much of it, but after picking a quiet little spot and having a sip of wine, he was down on one knee!
HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING?
I went with my mum (who was over from the Netherlands) and my mum-in-law, and had the best day. I wasn’t sure how I felt because I didn’t know what I wanted, but as soon as I walked in and met Kim I felt so comfortable. I didn’t feel any pressure and I had plenty of time to try on dresses and figure out what I liked. I also loved how it wasn’t over the top but really about how I felt - being Dutch I’ve never liked exaggerated compliments haha
HOW DID YOU KNOW YOUR GOWN WAS THE ONE?
I just felt my best in it! There were other gowns that I liked the look of, but I knew I wanted to be comfortable.
WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING STYLE AND INSPIRATION BEHIND IT?
Our style and inspiration came mostly from our venue. We fell in love with the place and everything else came after that. We wanted it to be classic with lots of colour where possible.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT FROM YOUR WEDDING?
It’s so hard to pick just one! We had a lot of family and friends from overseas and seeing everyone we love in one room together to celebrate with us is the most special memory.
WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING SOUNDTRACK?
Our playlist was full of old, happy love songs, which turned into 90s/2000s sing-alongs for the dancefloor. We had “I Melt With You” by Modern English as our ‘just got married’ song, “Lady” by the Commodores for our entrance, “Sweetest Thing on This Side of Heaven” by Papa Bear & His Cubs for our first dance and “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” by The Darkness to get the dancefloor started.
WHAT ARE YOUR WORDS OF WISDOM FOR OTHER BRIDES?
Little things will probably go wrong but none of that really matters - you’re marrying your person in a room with all of your loved ones
